Marshmallow root has been one of the most powerful remedies in my arsenal since the beginning of my journey! 

 

I highly recommend making a cold brew if you're going to drink it, and here is how: 

 

Put 2 HEAPING tablespoons of the herb into a quart jar, fill the jar with cold or room temperature, filtered water, put the lid on the jar, shake it up - and stick it in the fridge over night. (At least 4 hours, but 8-12 is great) 

 

The next morning, strain the jar of tea into an empty quart jar, and you'll have a whole quart of marshmallow for the day! 

 

IMPORTANT: 

I highly recommend allowing the quart to warm to room temperature before drinking it. We put extra stress on the digestive system when we eat or drink cold foods - and the purpose of marshmallow tea often is to soothe and strengthen the digestive system (plus so much more I'll get to in a moment!)

 

The tea will be a bit thick, but that mucilage content is offering so much medicine! 

 

Also - you can reuse the same herbs from the original batch. Just fill the jar with water again, tighten lid, shake, and stick in the fridge. The second batch won't be as strong as the first batch, but you wont waste anything!

 

If you don't have a compost, you can just toss the herb outside when you're done and let it go back to the earth <3

 

Okay, so why drink marshmallow root?

 

As I touched on above, it is so soothing to inflamed, painful digestive tissue. Marshmallow root helped me so much in healing from crohns. It soothes the inflamed tissue, which allows the tissue to receive nutrients and ultimately build. 

 

It can help soothe ulcers of the mouth and the digestive tract and the pockets that form from diverticulitis. 

 

I find that it is great for mucous membranes throughout the entire body! And we have a lot! (lungs, bladder, digestive system, etc.)

 

Marshmallow root is also known for it's positive impact on the kidneys and urinary tract. I often have someone drink this brew for a week before we begin breaking up stones (kidney) and they continue to drink it throughout the process to help ease passage of elimination. 

 

I love to recommend this brew all summer long as it is very hydrating to the entire body! I spend a lot of time outdoors, sweating and working, and this brew is a staple in my home!
