Albizia Bark

(Albizzia julibrissin)

Albizia bark is from the mimosa tree, also known as “The Tree of Happiness.” Both the flowers and bark of this tree are used medicinally - in this blog I will be writing about the bark specifically as that is what I use to make this tincture.

I use the bark to nourish and calm a disturbed spirit, restlessness, deep grief & depression, mood disorders, and irritability. Albizia invigorates the blood, helping to move fluids and energy throughout the body to reduce stagnation which can be very helpful, especially if we have feelings of grief, sadness, anxiety, etc. that leave you feeling “stuck” in those emotions. Albizia is my go-to when dealing with a situation that can feel helpless or incredibly overwhelming.

Energetically speaking, grief is housed in the lungs which usually leads to the respiratory system being affected when experiencing grief, especially if left unattended. It is no surprise that Albizia bark has an affinity for the respiratory system - helping to reduce inflammation in the sinuses or tract that lead to wheezing and coughing.

The anti-inflammatory benefits don’t stop at the respiratory system! Albizia has also been shown to remedy pain from gout, gastrointestinal inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis, and more!

Life can be very challenging and things happen that leave us feeling heartbroken or even devastated and we are worthy of all of the support and tools we need to help us navigate through and process difficult times and Albizia is a great friend that can offer you the feeling of a big warm hug and a sense of relief. While Albizia can certainly get to work calming you down with just one dose, I recommend using this tincture consistently for 2-3 weeks so that it may accumulate in your system and help to regulate your moods.

If dealing with severe or chronic depression, anxiety, or mood disorders I recommend booking an appointment with us for a consultation and to explore mentor/counseling options. Herbs are an excellent tool to use along with other tools such as nutrition, movement, habits, and more.

I believe it is a natural response to the unnatural world that we live in to be overcome with feelings of depression and anxiety - no matter how severe. Community and connection, connection to ourselves, nature, and people, are key factors in creating and maintaining a healthy life and learning how to manage the unavoidable challenges of life in a balanced, functional manner.

Due to Albizia’s blood-moving properties, it is not recommended for pregnant women.
