Foraging for Friends September 2024

I am SO VERY excited for our September 2024 foraging gathering! 

It is called “Foraging for Friends” because we believe in the importance of developing relationships with the plant life around us, as well as connecting other humans with each other! COMMUNITY! All ages are welcome!

Your safety is 100% your responsibility and no one will be held liable if an accident occurs.

While there will be people there with a bounty of knowledge on local and native plants - the point of this gathering is for us to develop our own relationships with any plants that call to us. There is plenty of time for you to order Florida foraging books, field knife, find a basket, and any other foraging tools you may think of. If you are unable to get these items, we will share ours with whoever we can! So please do not let that stop you from coming - there is much to learn!

Here is how you can prepare for this gathering:

Eat breakfast or bring snacks with you! It is hot out there and you will get hungry quickly if you don’t eat before you come.

Bring foraging books! I will post the ones that I have in the event page and I would greatly appreciate anyone sharing their favorite foraging books!

A protective hat to shade your face and eyes from the sun

A blanket, sheet, or mat if you find an area that you would like to sit and spend time in

WATER AND SNACKS - please try and eat before you come as it can get hot out there and you’ll be thankful for the extra energy!

There will be ticks out here so I suggest wearing long pants that can tuck into your shoes and perhaps even long sleeves. Keeping your hair tied back and covered helps to keep ticks out of your hair.

The goal of this gathering is for us to TAKE OUR TIME and spend it in nature. In my opinion, the best and most fun way to learn is hands-on experience. You are both the teacher and the student here. You will learn new things and be able to share them with those around you.

If you have any questions or would like to share anything - please post in the event section! This gathering will be Sunday September 15th, 2024 at Jennings State Forest. We will be meeting at the Pioneer Trail Head at Powell Ford. 

Take 16 through Green Cove Springs to Penny Farms, take a right on 218 to Nolan Rd, turn right. Go the the end and turn left onto Powell Ford Road. Follow to the end of the dirt road. We will hike along black creek to an overlook. There are no facilities at the trail.
